Countdown to Christmas Day 7 Having a Pet – tastic Christmas

I’ve not celebrated a Christmas without a fur-baby in a really long time. My Lhasa Apso, Waddles, passed away last year right before Thanksgiving and it was brutal. He had such personality and unconditional love that he will always hold a special place in my heart. However, luckily, I do have one of his pups that was raised alongside of him and our household has two other dogs as well. This is a wonderful time of year for all of our loved ones including the four legged ones with fur. So in hopes of giving you some ideas of what to do for your critters, I will share with you what we have done for ours.

New cage and bedding: Waddles old crate just wasn’t cutting it anymore for Pocky. It was old and really banged up and the door didn’t like staying shut. So we bought a new one at Wal-Mart. I used some sewing skills and made a new doggie bed to fit inside the crate and then yesterday I found an awesome deal on a doggie blanket. (Found it on sale for $1.99)

New food and water bowls: We went for a rubbery kind so that when Pocky spends some time outside and his water freezes it doesn’t bust up the bowl. (Plus it’s always good to switch these types of things out every once in a while to keep your pets from getting sick.)

Stocking full of goodies: All three of the dogs in our house have their own stockings. This year we filled it with raw-hides, chews, toys, biscuits (See recipe in Recipes) treats, new collars and leashes, etc.

We also laid new straw in their outside areas and added new dog houses only because they really needed new ones. Pet clothes are a good idea for gifts if you and your pet enjoy them but ours turn them into chew toys so we don’t spend the money. One of the great things about owning pets these days is the large selection of things for pets that are sold in numerous places. There’s something for all pet lovers and their fur-children. I hope you can find the perfect way to include your four-legged loved ones this holiday season.
